Risk of bacterial eye infections with overnight corneal reshaping lenses
Bullimore et al recently came out with a paper this year (2013) with statistics indicating that the risk of overnight corneal reshaping therapy is similar to other overnight soft lens modalities. Upon a retrospective study in a sample of over 1300 patients across the US, the prevalence of associated microbial keratitis cases was 0.0015%. Avoidable risk factors of any eye infection associated with contact lens wear are poor storage case hygiene, smoking, internet purchases, and less than 6 months of wear experience.
